Large Group Performance Evaluations
We began working on Large Group Performance Evaluations when we got back from our December Break. Each grade worked to perfect two songs. All of the songs I chose this year, except one, were from the list of literature given by GMEA. All groups must perform one off this list and the other can be a choice piece. Th 6th grade sang the beautiful Manx Lullaby accompanied by flute and piano as the required selection and Hand my Down my Silver Trumpet as the choice. The seventh sang When I am Silent and Break Forth into Joy, both from the required list. The eighth sang Dona Nobis Pacem and Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel? again, both off the required list. We also spent time every day ( except Fridays) working on Sight Reading.
Throughout this time period, we also prepared music for the kids that would be going on the Orlando Trip and the 6th grade did two songs from Wizard of Oz for some fun! We did a couple days of sight reading centers to help look at sight-reading in different ways. We danced, drummed, acted, drew, played on the floor piano and sang different examples. My choir director, Stephen Mitchell came and worked with my kids and as always, Mrs. Moon helped us prepare for our big day.
We performed on a Pre-LGPE concert, a few days later than planned as the first one was "snowed out"... And all of the groups did a nice job. It helped us all see what we needed to work on in the final two weeks before LGPE. The week before LGPE, some of us left for Orlando and when we came back we had only two days to re-group!
Wednesday, March 18, the 6th grade performed at 9:15 am and the 7th performed at 10:00 am. They both did a beautiful job and came back to school (after lunch , of course) with straight Superiors on all judges forms. In the sub-categories, we had nothing less than a 2 on any category but had mostly 1's there as well. The next day, the 8th grade performed at 9:00 am with the exact same results! All groups got overall superior ratings from each judge! This was a banner year for my groups and I could not be more proud!
